    About Cambria

    notting hill style countertop

Cambria is a family-owned and American-made company that produces natural quartz countertops, floor tile, backsplashes, and more. They value quality, community, innovation, and passion while pushing for perfection. To help support some organizations, like Playing For Change and They Lied. We Know. Cambria gives back through its “CambriaCares” program. They even established a Camp Cambria organization, a summer camp for children with juvenile arthritis.

    How Cambria Quartz is Made

Cambria first collects natural quartz from a company-owned mine. From there, the natural quartz is converted into slabs. These slabs are made by combining pure quartz and a bit of pigment and binders. This process creates food-safe, nonabsorbent, and durable slabs. Cambria Quartz is manufactured in Le Sueur, Minnesota; they’ve been manufacturing for more than 60 years!

    Variety of Designs

Cambria offers over 200 quartz countertop designs! Since quartz can be made to look like other stones, there’s no wonder Cambria can offer such a wide variety of countertop styles. With so many designs, you may wonder how a homeowner could ever pick the ‘perfect’ design for their home. Thankfully, Cambria offers an easy way to search through their collection of designs by filtering by hue, style, series, and group. Let us explain more below.

    Hue Type

Cambria offers five hue types: light, mid-tone, dark, warm, and cool. Getting a ballpark idea of what Cambria Quartz color you want is a good place to start if you are not sure what style you want. Are you looking for a subtle, neutral countertop color or a bold, statement-making color? There are a variety of styles within each hue type category.

    Style

The style is also the design of the countertop. What details and movement do you want to see? Cambria offers seven quartz countertops: Bold Movement, Subtle Movement, No Movement, Jeweled, Marble Alternatives, Granite Alternatives, and Terrazzo Alternatives. The ‘movement’ defines how many waves and veins you want to see on the countertop. Subtle countertops may show ‘subtle movement’ or ‘no movement.’ Jeweled countertops show smaller details in the design. A benefit of Cambria Quartz is that its countertops can be made to look like other stone countertops like marble and granite—yet have the quality of quartz. As you can see, Cambria offers a variety of countertops that look like marble, granite, and terrazzo.

    Series and Groups

After selecting a style and hue, the last thing to do is choose from Cambria’s three series of quartz countertops: Luxury, Signature, and Classic. Countertops within each series have a unique look to them. There are also unique quartz countertop designs within The Coordinates Collection.

    Why Quartz for Countertops?

Natural quartz is a great choice for countertops because it is one of the hardest minerals on Earth—even stronger than granite. This means it is a reliable and durable material that will last for ages. Another advantage of natural quartz is its inability to absorb food and liquids, unlike granite and marble, which are porous stones. Natural quartz is nonabsorbent and nonporous — the type of material you want when it comes to countertops. On top of it all, quartz is maintenance-free, so it never needs sealing or reconditioning. Marble, granite, and concrete, on the other hand, need to be resealed regularly to be properly cared for.

    Quartz vs Granite

The biggest difference between quartz and granite is that quartz is nonporous, and granite is porous. This means that granite absorbs liquids and foods—quartz does not. Because granite is a porous stone, there is a greater risk of granite countertops staining and harboring bacteria. To prevent this from happening, a granite countertop must be sealed and reconditioned regularly with a chemical treatment. On the other hand, quartz can be washed with warm water and mild soap (if needed) and never needs to be reconditioned.

    Quartz vs Marble

Like granite, marble is also a porous stone, so countertops need to be sealed properly. Acidic liquids, oil, water, and wine can easily stain marble countertops. This makes marble a high-maintenance stone to take care of compared to quartz. On the other hand, marble is more resistant to hot temperatures than quartz. Where quartz can withstand temperatures up to about 150 degrees, marble can withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees. Either way, using a trivet is always recommended to protect your countertops from high heat.

    Quartz vs Concrete

Concrete countertops are not as durable as quartz countertops as they can crack or develop fissures. There’s also a higher chance of seeing imperfections from installation, such as air bubbles or chips. Concrete countertops must also be sealed properly (once a year) and require more maintenance than quartz countertops. This drives up the overall cost of concrete countertops and makes them more expensive in the long run than quartz countertops.

Home101 is a supporter of Cambria Quartz for many reasons. For one, Cambria is American-made and family-owned, a value Home101 can get behind. Plus, Cambria is the only American company in the quartz surface business. Finally, Cambria offers a huge variety of quartz countertop designs in addition to offering a transferable Full Lifetime Warranty with each purchase. Here are a few more reasons why Home101 has chosen to work with Cambria Quartz.

    Durable

As we mentioned above, natural quartz is one of the hardest minerals on Earth. It is nearly indestructible compared to other stones. This means that there is a very low chance of a quartz countertop cracking or a piece breaking off. Because quartz is so durable, it will last for years and cost less than other stone countertops that aren’t as durable and run a higher risk of needing to be repaired over time.

    Resistant to Bacteria

Natural quartz is a nonporous stone, so it does not absorb liquids and food; therefore, it doesn’t absorb bacteria. This amazing feature makes quartz a top choice for countertops in commercial kitchens. In fact, Cambria quartz is NSF 51 certified for food and splash zone use.

    Easy to Maintain

Quartz countertops are also very easy to maintain as they only need to be cleaned with warm water and mild soap when necessary. Other stones, such as granite, require more maintenance, like reconditioning and sealing, which are usually needed once a year.

    Stain Resistant

With Cambria Quartz, you don’t have to worry about staining your countertops with water, wine, coffee, or oils. Quartz is stain-resistant! So unlike marble, granite, and concrete, you don’t have to reseal your countertop regularly. In fact, a quartz countertop doesn’t need to be sealed at all.

    Large Selection

Cambria offers a huge selection of quartz countertop designs (over 200!), so you can find the perfect color and style for your kitchen. Because quartz can take on the look of other materials (e.g., marble), there is a wide variety of options available to you from Cambria.

    Transferable Full Lifetime Warranty

If somehow your quartz countertop has been damaged, Cambria covers manufacturing defects with its Full Lifetime Warranty. To make it even better, this lifetime warranty is transferable to future owners during the warranty period. Cambria defines ‘lifetime’ as the “lifetime of the quartz until it has been removed, replaced, altered, or subjected to excluded damage.”
