    Why Trust Us

With your LG refrigerator not cooling, your fresh food and freezer goods are bound to get warm and go bad sooner than later. As the owner, you must diagnose this problem quickly to prevent wasted food and money. If you are wondering what to do with an LG refrigerator not cooling, we have put together a quick guide to help.

    Find a New LG Refrigerator

    Shop New LG Fridges

Below is a list of the most common problems associated with an LG refrigerator not cooling including solutions for fixing the problem. While most broken refrigerators with cooling problems are fixable, you may determine it’s best to invest in a brand-new model rather than continuing to pour money into your old LG fridge. If that’s the case, we have included some top-rated LG refrigerators that are currently on the market.

To start, here is the first possible reason why you have an LG refrigerator not cooling.

    Faulty Condenser Fan Motor

For an LG refrigerator to cool properly, air must flow through the fridge continuously. This is that fresh cold air that you feel when you open your refrigerator doors and put your face inside. The LG refrigerator condenser fan motor is an important part because it is the part that blows air across the condenser coil to keep the refrigerator cool. If the condenser fan motor is no longer functioning or not functioning properly, the LG refrigerator will stop cooling.

It is possible for the condenser fan motor to be working properly but the condenser fan blades are simply too dirty for cool air to pass through them. If this is the case, a good cleaning of the condenser fan blades is all you need to remedy the problem.

Solution: Check for Debris and Check the Motor

First, unplug the LG refrigerator so that you are working in a safe environment. Now, the easiest thing to do first is to check that the condenser fan blades do not need a good cleaning. If they are dirty, a good vacuum attachment can help clean up all the dust and debris. If the refrigerator is still not cooling after cleaning the fan blades, it is time to check the motor itself. A multimeter can check the motor’s continuity to see if it is still working. If it’s not, you will need to replace the LG condenser fan motor or invest in a new LG refrigerator.

LG 26.2 Cu. Ft. PrintProof™ Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator

    LG PrintProof French Door Refrigerator

The LG PrintProof Stainless Steel Refrigerator is one of the best LG fridges if you are ready to replace your fridge with a new model altogether. In fact, it includes a Linear Compressor that works with the LG Smart Cooling® system to keep temperatures consistently cool. With a dual ice system, homeowners can grab ice from the exterior dispenser or inside the bottom freezer. Thankfully, the Slim SpacePlus® Ice System is located behind the shelving in the door so that it does not take from the overall storage space.

This model is available in PrintProof Black Stainless Steel and PrintProof Stainless Steel.

    • Model: LFXS26973S
    • Dimensions: 35.75” W x 68 ⅜” H x 34 ⅞”
    • Total Capacity: 26.2 Cu. ft.

    Customer Review

This customer said, “Bought this about a month ago and has many more things than expected. There are 2 ice makers, wasn't something I really put much thought in until I went to throw some ice in a cooler. There is also an Ice Plus to increase ice and freezing output. Connected it to wifi and have some useful metrics like energy usage, diagnosis, and can change settings from the app. Would recommend!”

    Evaporator Fan Motor

Inside your LG refrigerator is also a motor specifically for the fan. If this motor has stopped working, the fan won’t be able to circulate air from the freezer into the refrigerator compartment. If you have already checked that the fan is clean and free from debris buildup, then the evaporator fan motor has probably stopped working altogether.

Solution: Replace the Evaporator Fan Motor

At this point, you would need to replace the evaporator fan motor. Fortunately, an LG evaporator fan motor isn’t too pricey of a part to purchase. Even so, if you are unable to replace it yourself, you may have to hire someone to do it for you.

LG 20.2 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Top Freezer Refrigerator

    LG Top Freezer Refrigerator

Another great replacement refrigerator is the LG Stainless Steel Top Freezer Refrigerator. This model isn’t quite as large as the previous model, but it offers a top freezer compartment rather than a bottom freezer compartment. This LG model has a reversible door so homeowners can choose which direction they would like their door to swing. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly refrigerator, this model has been recognized for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2021 ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award.

This model is available in Smooth Black, Smooth White, and Stainless Steel.

    Customer Review

This customer said, “I've only had my new refrigerator for a little over a week, but I'm very happy with it. The size is perfect, I love the large interior for the freezer and the refrigerator.the vegetables bins are deep and hold plenty of fruits and veggies. The finish is easy to wipe down and keep clean. Very pleased.”

    Failed Inverter Linear Compressor

A failed inverter linear compressor could be the reason why your LG refrigerator is not cooling. Whereas a faulty evaporator fan could leave your freezer cold but your fridge warm, a failed inverter linear compressor is likely to leave your freezer and fridge warm. A failed star relay could also be to blame. To see if your compressor is still running, take off the back panel and check that way. A running refrigerator that is warm usually means the compressor has stopped working since refrigerant isn’t getting pumped out.

Solution: Replace the Inverter Linear Compressor

At this point, you will have to purchase a new inverter linear compressor to replace your faulty one. Unfortunately, this LG part is somewhat pricey, selling for a few hundred dollars. Thankfully, LG offers 10-year warranties on their inverter linear compressors. If your fridge is less than 10 years old, you shouldn’t have to purchase a new part after all. Check your warranty information or contact LG’s customer service team for more information. If you’re not under warranty and would rather purchase a brand-new model, consider this LG refrigerator.

LG Studio 25.6 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Counter Depth Side By Side Refrigerator

LG Studio Counter Depth Side by Side Refrigerator

With your refrigerator broken, it may be a great time to upgrade! This LG Studio Stainless Steel Refrigerator holds quite a bit of food and drink, offering plenty of space in the fridge compartment and freezer compartment. The SpacePlus® ice system is even located in the door of the fridge so that more space can be utilized inside the fridge. The water dispenser is extra-large, allowing almost any size of container to be filled up easily.

    • Model: SRSXB2622S
    • Dimensions: 42” W x 83.5” H x 27 ⅞” D
    • Total Capacity: 25.6 Cu. ft.

    Price Range

This model is by far the most expensive and luxurious LG refrigerator on our list. Customers can find it selling for about $8999.00 to $9999.00.

    Customer Review

This customer said, “I have been delighted! This side-by-side is beautiful, and even the interior lighting is exceptional. It is quiet, multi shelved, storage remarkable easy to access, and the exterior ice cube/water dispenser practical and convenient. Very happy! should have bought it sooner.”

Other Reasons Your LG Refrigerator is Not Cooling

We have covered the most common reasons why your LG refrigerator is not cooling but there are still some other possibilities. Other reasons your refrigerator is having problems keeping cool may or may not include:

    • Defective Temperature Control Thermostat
    • Faulty Main Control Board

Either of these reasons for a LG refrigerator not cooling may involve the thermostat or main control board. A faulty thermostat won’t keep the fridge at the low temperature it needs to be at. A faulty main control board is the brain of the refrigerator so if something is not working in ‘the brain,’ then there could definitely be issues with the LG refrigerator not cooling. Either LG part can be replaced, if you choose to not replace the refrigerator altogether. On the other hand, it may be better to invest in a new LG model to save money in the long run.
